Facing Crisis: Text and Context

Lancaster University

10 July, 2026

Keynote Speaker: Dr Nathan Jones (Lancaster University)

The second annual Value of Literature Conference invites proposals for 15-minute papers to be presented in person at Lancaster Castle on the theme of "Facing Crisis: Text and Context." The conference brings together researchers to elevate the importance of literature, literary studies, and the written word in academia and beyond.

We welcome papers that explore crises across the disciplines of literature, creative writing, and the wider arts and humanities fields. We encourage interdisciplinary work. We are open to papers from postgraduates, early-career researchers and academics, and those working with literature in any way.

Please submit an abstract of 200 to 250 words and a 100-word bio to volc@lancaster.ac.uk. The Call for Papers closes on 30 April, 2026.

We look forward to reading your contribution,

VOLC
