Everything from fine art, films and design to theatrical works, creative writing and architecture will provide a cultural feast for the senses later this month when Lancaster University School of Arts students stage their end of degree shows.
The end of degree displays will run from 15 to 24 June with the main opening for most shows taking place on 17 and 18June in the University’s LICA Building.
The School of Arts Degree Show will feature works by final year students from Architecture, Creative Writing, Design, Fine Art and Film disciplines and Theatre.
Architecture students will stage their Open Exhibition, after the official opening night on Wednesday, 17 June, for a week in LICA Studio A 10c and Bowland Annex C floor followed by their extra special ‘After Show’ celebration on 25 June from 1pm to 5pm in the Nuffield Theatre and LICA Building.
The event will bring together graduating students, staff, practitioners, and guests for student talks, a guest lecture by Harrison Stringfellow Architects, prize announcements, and an opportunity to celebrate the exhibition and meet the students behind the work.
Final year Creative Writing students are sharing a visual anthology of their work. From fiction, graphic novels, children's books, poetry and more, the visual anthology will play on a screen in the LICA foyer from 17 June for one week.
On Wednesday, 10 June at 6.30pm, students from the MA in Creative Writing will present a showcase of their work in LICA C01.
Guest Alexander Cochran of the Greyhound Literary Agency will speak to Creative Writing students on Wednesday, 10 June and today (9 June) Luca Guariento from Blackwater Press will speak to Distance Learning MA Creative Writing students.
Design students are all set to reveal their creative exhibition in the LICA building, A36 from 17 June.
The Fine Art Degree Show will open on Wednesday, 17 June, with a private view from 6pm to 8.30pm, after which the show will run until Wednesday 24 from 11am to 5pm, in the LICA Building, Bowland Annex and Peter Scott Gallery.
Some 58 graduating Fine Art students opted for ‘The Fine Art Degree Show’ as a suitably succinct title posing the question of ‘What is an art school?’
Their studios have functioned as laboratories: sites of experimentation in which the boundaries of materials and processes are tested, and complex ideas are translated into forms, images, texts, sounds, journeys, and encounters across a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, sound, the written word and digital media.
The experimentation does more than produce objects; it invites us to reconsider the relationships between artistic practice, critical inquiry, and the contemporary world.
Film students are sure to reel in the audiences when they present two public screenings at the Dukes on Monday, 15 June with final year dissertation films screening at 5pm and 9pm and on Tuesday, 16 June for final year films (non dissertations) screening at 2pm to 5pm. Film students will also have their Degree Show Trailer playing on loop for the whole week in the LICA building foyer near the main door.
Theatre students will take to the stage to present free shows to the public on 18 June, with matinee shows at 2pm and 3.30pm and evening shows at 7pm and 8.30pm. These will be (free) ticketed shows bookable through the Lancaster Arts website and will take place in the Nuffield Theatre.
Film and Fine Art will also display work online as always (at https://lancaster-degreeshow-2026.art/) which will go live after the official opening.
Head of Lancaster University’s School of Arts Professor Emma Rose said: “The Degree Show is a wonderful celebration of the creativity, talent, and dedication of our graduating students across the School of Arts.
“From film, theatre and creative writing to architecture, design, and fine art, these exhibitions and screenings showcase not only exceptional artistic work, but also the collaborative and interdisciplinary spirit that defines our creative community at Lancaster.”
