Creating healthier online and physical food environments from BYTE-2-BITE

Online food delivery platforms are among the fastest-growing yet least-studied commercial determinants of diet, and the evidence is only beginning to catch up. With 44 million UK users and a market that has doubled since the pandemic, this seismic shift in how populations eat has outpaced both research and regulation. In this talk, Dr Sisi Jia examines the nutritional risks embedded in these emerging digital food environments and what the evidence means for cardiovascular health, vulnerable populations, and a policy landscape struggling to keep pace.

Dr Sisi Jia is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Research Fellow at the University of Sydney, Australia. Her research examines how food environments shape dietary behaviour and chronic disease risk, with a particular focus on young people and their use of online food delivery services. Her work aims to translate research into scalable, real-world solutions that support healthier consumer choices in online and offline settings.
