Successful screening of A Basket Full of Eggs at Lancaster University
On 29 October 2026, Lancaster University hosted a successful screening of A Basket Full of Eggs, a documentary exploring the often-overlooked contribution of Romani communities to England's folk music traditions.
The event featured a fascinating presentation by Professor Hazel Marsh (University of East Anglia), followed by a screening of the film and a panel discussion with Olivia Hammond (The Traveller Movement) and Nicoleta Calin (Leeds City Council). The discussion was chaired by Dr Joanna Kostka, Co-Director of the Centre for Child and Family Justice Research (CfJ), and explored questions of Romani heritage, representation and the importance of community knowledge.
Organised by Voices with Impact, with support from Dr Kostka, the event formed part of Lancaster University's wider NIHR Mental Health Research Group (MHRG) programme, which seeks to strengthen community involvement in research.
The event received excellent feedback from attendees and demonstrated the value of bringing together researchers, community members and practitioners for meaningful conversations. Building on its success, CfJ hopes to organise further events that create space for dialogue, shared learning and community engagement.
