Stephen Wilkinson, PI for the Future of Human Reproduction, has been appointed to the Nuffield Council on Bioethics Horizon Scanning Advisory Group. Congratulations!

This appointment strengthens the connections between our research and the Council's strategic foresight work.

The HSAG exists to provide governance to NCOB's horizon scanning and foresight programme. It ensures the work is of strategic benefit to the Council and its wider stakeholders, and helps to better anticipate scientific developments and health trends that pose fundamental ethical questions to society.

This is extremely relevant to the Future of Human Reproduction team's research, as we seek to identify and examine emerging developments in reproductive technologies and related cultural, ethical, legal, and social considerations.

Find out more about the NCOB's horizon scanning and see how FoHR have used time as a creative tool to support critical thinking about changing technology and its possible implications.

What is Horizon Scanning?

Horizon Scanning is intended to develop an organisation's capability for identifying subtle contextual environmental changes, allowing organisations to cultivate a high awareness and understanding of their context, leading to quick and effective responses to changes and events. It involves the comprehensive and systematic examination of risk, uncertainty and emerging trends, in order to reframe perceptions and identify implicit and explicit assumptions about the future.
