Community Spirit Shines as Defying Dementia Fundraising Shop Raises Over £100,000 for Dementia Research
The Defying Dementia Fundraising and Community Shop in the heart of Lancaster City Centre has reached an incredible milestone – raising over £100,000 in support of Defying Dementia at Lancaster University. The Shop, run by Linda Warrington, her husband Neil, and a devoted team of volunteers which include Linda’s friends and family, has become a local hub of kindness, all driven by a deeply personal mission to make a difference for people affected by dementia.
For Linda, the cause is close to home. After caring for her mother who lived with dementia, she felt compelled to turn her experience into action. Now retired from her career as a teacher, Linda has channelled her energy and compassion into running the shop – transforming donations and community spirit into meaningful support for dementia research here at Lancaster.
The shop’s success is the result of Linda and Neil’s dedication along with a loyal network of customers and volunteers. Together, they have created more than just a retail space – it’s a place where people come together to give, share and support one another. This commitment has turned small acts of generosity into extraordinary impact.
The £100,000 raised will go directly towards funding vital research at Lancaster University, supporting our scientists who are working tirelessly to find treatments that could slow down or even prevent dementia.
What began as one woman’s tribute to her parent has grown into a remarkable community effort – and a beacon of hope for everyone affected by dementia. Through determination, teamwork and love, Linda, Neil and their family and friends have shown that collective efforts to make positive change can really lead to life-changing results.
Our sincere thanks go to Linda and Neil Warrington, their family, friends, and everyone who supports the Defying Dementia Fundraising and Community Shop for their incredible commitment. Congratulations on reaching such a meaningful milestone!
