Event Details

The School of Global Affairs is delighted to host the 71st Annual Conference of the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland (AHGBI) from 23–24 March 2026, with an additional online programme on 26 March 2026.

The event brings together scholars from across the UK, Ireland, Europe, and the Americas for three days of rich intellectual exchange centred on Hispanic Studies.

Held primarily in the Management School, the conference features an extensive programme of parallel research sessions, plenary lectures, and themed panels spanning Medieval and Golden Age studies, Latin American literature and culture, linguistics, translation, performance studies, political and historical research, queer studies, and more.

There will be plenary lectures by leading scholars such as Dr Carlos Soler Montes (University of Edinburgh), Dr Arantza Mayo (Royal Holloway), Dr Stephanie Wright (Lancaster University), and Professor Alison Ribeiro de Menezes. Early career academics and postgraduate researchers will be supported with workshops, and a REF presentation will be delivered by Prof. Jane Stuart-Smith, Prof. Susan Harrow and Prof. Isabel Torres

This conference will also include a drinks reception, cultural performance by guitarist Owen Saunders entitled “Hispanic Journey through Guitar and song from Spain to Latin America”, and a conference dinner in Lancaster city centre.

The conference showcases Lancaster’s growing strengths in Hispanic Studies and our commitment to fostering international academic collaboration. Colleagues from across the University are warmly invited to engage with the event and celebrate the vibrant research culture hosted on our campus.
