My International Perspective: English Language Assistant in Mallorca
Posted on

During my year abroad as an English Language Assistant in Mallorca, I worked at the Escola Oficial d’Idiomes de Manacor with adults at all CEFR levels and occasionally in neighbouring towns such as Campos. The teaching role itself was the best part of the year. The students were enthusiastic, my colleagues were so welcoming and supportive, and I even had the chance to organise a Scottish cultural day, which was met with great enthusiasm, and everyone loved it and I felt so proud in being the one who organised it.
Life on the island also gave me a chance to grow personally. While there were some practical challenges around accommodation and commuting, I learned to adapt quickly and make the most of the opportunities available. Palma, where I lived, proved to be one of the most vibrant and beautiful cities I have ever been to and it was full of things to do, and I would encourage future assistants to get involved in local life, whether through joining activities, spending time with colleagues, or exploring the island’s culture and community. Overall, my year abroad was both incredibly rewarding and enriching, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to do it.
