LAEL at Campus in the City

On Friday 11 April, members of the Department of Linguistics and English Language took part in Campus in the City 2025 at More Music in Morecambe, contributing to an inspiring day celebrating research, creativity, and community. The department brought five exciting and interactive activities for visitors to explore: a Lancashire accent quiz, a language & gender animation activity, a noisy noses phonetics station, a linguistics-themed escape game, and a tongue ultrasound experience featuring a live beatbox performance. Each activity offered a fun and educational way for visitors of all ages to engage with language and linguistics.
The response from the public was overwhelmingly positive. Over 260 people attended the event, with many staying for hours, diving into the activities and asking thoughtful questions. Now in its second year in this format, Campus in the City has grown in scale and impact. For the department, it was a meaningful opportunity to share research beyond the university and connect with the local community in creative and memorable ways.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
