MA students' success in international dissertation award

We are delighted to share the news that two students from the MA in Language Testing programme have been successful in the 2021 Caroline Clapham IELTS Masters Award. Svetlana Mazhurnaya won the award and Catherine Hughes was highly commended.

The Caroline Clapham IELTS Masters Award is for the dissertation which makes the most significant contribution to the field of language testing.

Svetlana's research was titled A comparative investigation of interactional profile of convergent and deviant cases across proficiency levels in a paired EAP oral test. Her dissertation project was supervised by Professor Luke Harding.

Catherine's research was titled Exploring and analysing rater perceptions of linguistic proficiency when making holistic judgements of extended speech and the specific factors contributing to these judgements. Her project was also supervised by Professor Luke Harding.

The award is made by the IELTS partners: the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English.

Students from the MA in Language Testing programme have won the award in four of the last five years.
