What is MARS?

MARS: Mathematics for AI in Real-world Systems is a UK centre for research and teaching in mathematics underpinning applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to real-world systems. It is funded by a £22 million strategic investment from Research England and Lancaster University.

Our vision

To establish an internationally-recognised centre of research and teaching excellence at the interface of dynamical systems modelling, machine learning and applied mathematics that will transform fundamental understanding of AI and drive innovation that has real-world impact.

Our mission

By combining applied mathematics with cutting-edge AI methods, we will develop effective, reliable and trustworthy solutions that have tangible economic, environmental and societal impact. Through strategic partnerships with academia, industry, and government, we will build a centre of excellence in next-generation mathematics and AI, driving innovation and developing the talent pipeline needed for a more secure, sustainable, and resilient future.
