Ranked 8th in the Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2015, and with 95% overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2014, our innovative and friendly department continues to build on its well-deserved reputation for top-quality teaching and world-class research.

Our commitment to teaching and providing an outstanding student experience has seen continued investment in staff and resources, and this has led to improvements in teaching quality, which our students have benefited from.

Dr Amanda Turner, Head of Undergraduate Teaching said: “We’re really delighted with these results. All our staff are committed to making Lancaster a fantastic place to study mathematics, so it’s gratifying to receive such positive recognition for the work that we’ve put in to achieve this."

NSS feedback tells us that our students feel intellectually stimulated and have gained confidence in their communication skills. They find that staff are enthusiastic about what they are teaching and that the feedback we provide helps their understanding.

One student commented: “The fact that all members of staff are willing to help and offer advice is great. There is a fantastic atmosphere in the department, work focused yet friendly and welcoming. A fantastic turnaround with regards to coursework and test results. I loved my time here.”

In addition, the 2014 QS World University Rankings, the most influential and widely observed international university rankings, reaffirm Lancaster's Statistics and Operational Research in the top 100 places in the world for the subject, a position we have held since the rankings began in 2011.
