Rhian Davies, a final-year PhD student with the STOR-i (Statistics and Operational Research) Centre for Doctoral Training has been appointed a Statistical Ambassador by the Royal Statistical Society.

The RSS is one of the world's leading organisations to promote the importance of statistics and data. Founded in 1834, it is a professional body for all statisticians and data analysts, with more than 6,000 members in the UK and across the world.

Rhian, together with the other nine ambassadors selected in 2016, will receive training and support over the next year to help improve her skills and confidence in talking about statistics in public - to the media, schools and wider public.

"I have enjoyed being actively involved in engagement activities in the mathematics department, including the Florence Nightingale Day, Royal Institution Masterclasses and department open days, and I look forward to developing my science communication skills further with the RSS."
