pro2 2024
The inaugural pro2 network+ Device Prototyping and Production Summer School was hosted on 10th-12th July 2024, and welcomed individuals - academics, industry-based, and hobbiests alike - to come together and meet like-minded individuals for a three-day event centred on "isotyping".
pro2 2024
pro2 2024 involved a variety of opportunities to network, keynotes by industrial and academic professionals, opportunities for delegates to pitch and showcase their prototypes, and masterclasses on coding with Jacdac and the BBC micro:bit. The event was very successful, with some 30 delegates in attendance.
pro2 2025
The second pro2 Summer School ran from 15th-18th July 2025, was once again organised by Professors Steve Hodges and Joe Finney, and Dr Lorraine Underwood from Lancaster University and Maura Lydon, Matt Sutton and Sarah Hughes from the pro2 network+. Welcoming some 40 delegates from a range of institutions, countries, and industrial backgrounds, it boasted an expanded portfolio compared to the 2024 iteration.
pro2 2025
The pro2 school hosted the usual keynotes and coding tutorials, in addition to a surface mount assembly and soldering practical held in the Engineering labs. Additionally, there was an opportunity for delegates to participate in a competition to receive funding to further develop their prototypes. The competition for funding resulted in 14 participants receiving £200 towards prototyping costs for their inventions, with a grand prize of £1000 awarded to Benjamin Seleb from Georgia Tech for his “TinkerTrap” wildlife camera.
BEST Workshops
The BEST workshop sessions were run by academics associated with micro:bit in Malaysia, in partnership with Sunway. The team delivered 8 days of student workshops with around 160 students and their reachers in attendance over the course of the event.
