The University awarded Intikhab Alam Khan and Professor Roy Harrison with honorary degrees during the ceremonies, where 1,650 postgraduate students received their higher degrees and diplomas.

Intikhab Alam Khan

A widely respected Pakistani cricketer, Mr Khan made his First-class cricket debut at the age of 15, and went on to establish an enviable record, playing 47 Test Matches and four One Day Internationals for Pakistan between 1959 and 1977, also serving as Captain. 

Among his many achievements, he took more First-Class wickets than any other Pakistani player.  He also played English County cricket for Surrey between 1969 and 1981. 

After retirement as a player, he established a second distinguished career as a coach, and was national coach when Pakistan won both the World Cup of 1992 and the ICC World T20 in 2009.

Professor Roy Harrison

Roy Harrison is the Queen Elizabeth II Birmingham Centenary Professor of Environmental Health, at the University of Birmingham. 

Professor Harrison was awarded the OBE in 2004 for his work as a world-leading researcher in the field of air pollution and its impacts on human health.

His scientific expertise has contributed directly to government policy through his chairmanship and membership of expert advisory panels, including the Quality of Urban Air Review Group, and the Department of Health Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants.
