Expert panelists drawn from a number of different organisations, including: ICLEI, Stockholm Resilience Centre and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, will provide a different perspective on how cities can help us move towards a low carbon future.
The events will aim to be as participative as possible and there will be opportunity to put forward questions prior to each webinar. Each webinar will also be recorded and made available post event.
The two webinar themes are:
29th June, 15:00 BST – How can cities help us achieve a +1.5C world?
20th July, 15:00 BST – The business case for sustainable cities – inclusive, healthy and economically viable
Michael Meaney, who is organising the webinars, said: “Nearly 70% of the world population is expected to live in urban areas by the middle of this century and cities are estimated to contribute 70-80% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Cities represent both a huge threat and a huge opportunity in tackling climate change.
“These two webinars will help us explore themes of resilience and sustainability in cities from a variety of perspectives provided by diverse and expert panels.”
The Pentland Centre Old aims to create a world-class hub for transdisciplinary research on sustainability. The Centre explores macro trends, particularly in environmental sustainability, ethical trade, human rights, and how business can be a force for good.
The webinars are part of the Resilience Connections Network project, which aims to develop a strong, global network of resilience practitioners.
