A key issue for qualitative researchers, regardless of our preferred approach, is to manage the research process in a rigorous and meaningful way in order to contribute to the field. In the session, I describe a research process that is applicable to any qualitative approach, but coloured by my narrative researcher’s perspective. We will focus on the issues to consider in making decisions throughout the process. I hope that my framing of the research process and the modelling of my thinking will give you ‘food for thought’ regardless of which qualitative approach you prefer.
The workshop will be held by Professor Lynn McAlpine from the University of Oxford. Lynn is one of the most prominent scholars on PhD and post-PhD career trajectories. She receives frequent international invitations to do workshops and keynotes that explore the implications of the research both from pedagogical and policy perspectives. She is also a Visiting Professor at Lancaster University.
PS If you want to do a little reading about narrative methodology, please see McAlpine, L. (2016). Why might you use narrative methodology? A story about narrative. Eesti Haridusteaduste Ajakiri. Estonian Journal of Education, 4 (1), 32-57.
