An upcoming CfJ In Conversation on Tuesday, 12th May. CfJ invites a conversation between Dr Ala Sirriyeh (Sociology) and Dr Cath Hill (Social Work) on children's rights, responsibility and the role of research.
A conversation between Dr Ala Sirriyeh (Sociology) and Dr Cath Hill (Social Work)
At a time of ongoing global conflict and humanitarian crisis, questions about children’s rights, responsibility, and the role of research are not only urgent, but increasingly complex. This session brings together Ala Sirriyeh and Cath Hill for a reflective and critical discussion on how researchers and practitioners respond to moments of profound instability.
The conversation will explore the conditions shaping contemporary engagement, including fatigue, misinformation, and desensitisation, and consider what forms of response remain possible, ethical, and meaningful. It will also reflect on the responsibilities of research in contexts where children’s lives are shaped by displacement, violence, and structural inequality.
As part of the CfJ In Conversation series, this session is designed as an informal exchange, creating space for dialogue, shared reflection, and the building of connections across research and practice communities.
Date: Tuesday, 12 May
Time: 12:00 -13:00 pm
Location: Lancaster University, Roundhouse B07 (in person)
Tea, coffee and cake will be provided.
