Work in the UK has changed significantly over the past decades. The new UK Insecure Work Index tracks the phenomenon of insecure work in the UK over the last two decades. It provides new insight into who is most affected by severely insecure work, and what can be done about it.

Work in the UK has changed significantly over the past decades. Previous research has asked whether workers today are better off than they were previously, given the proliferation of non-standard forms of work and a decade of austerity chipping away at social security with the risk increasingly shifting from employers to workers. The Covid-19 crisis has accelerated existing trends in the labour market, producing short and potentially long-term changes.

The new UK Insecure Work Index tracks the phenomenon of insecure work in the UK over the last two decades. It provides new insight into who is most affected by severely insecure work, and what can be done about it.

The Work Foundation’s Rebecca Florisson (Policy Advisor) and Melanie Wilkes (Head of Research) will discuss the research, and the implications for those in insecure work in light of the cost of living crisis and potential economic downturn.
