What was the best thing about your course?

The best thing about the course was the diversity of the students and also of the subjects. Studying with people from all over the world broadened my horizons and getting insights into the many different fields of management helped me to find out where my strengths lie and where I wanted to specialize in after graduating.

Did you do a project, placement, study abroad? What did this involve and what did you gain?

As a part of my dissertation, I did a summer school in Paris for 4 weeks which was the highlight of my Master’s Degree. I met amazing people from all over the world – many of which became really good friends for me. The diversity of students was even higher than in the course in Lancaster which provided me with more international and intercultural experience – and thus enhanced my employability and professional network. Before the start I was able to choose from a wide range of courses to have an individual timetable which matched my own interests. Getting the opportunity to study in two different countries and cultures was truly amazing.

What are the best things about living in the Lancaster area?

As Lancaster is a small city it feels like a family – especially if you live on campus. The centre of our group life was Grad Bar where we spend many many evenings together and it never took you more than 5 minutes to meet your friends. You can find everything you need on campus and if you need some time off the beautiful Lakes are not far away.

Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?

During our studies, we had to do a lot of group work. Many of them were fun, some of them were challenging. But they all helped us to work together with many different personalities, learn how to grow as a team and how to deal with conflicts during work. This ability is important in the currently fast-moving work environment. Moreover, having some modules on SPSS and quantitative analysis gave me the basics I need for my current job.

What impact has your Lancaster experience had on your career?

Since experience gained abroad is highly valued in Germany, this definitely improved my employability. Also being able to speak English fluently is essential in business. As I could choose the subject of my dissertation myself, I was able to choose a subject I was really interested in and to give my future my employer an insight in my analytical skills.
