25 November 2013

Staff from LUMS baked over 30 delicious cakes for the 'Great Lancaster Bake-Off', in support of the BBC's Children in Need campaign, on 21st November 2013.

The cakes were sold by LUMS Ambassadors to staff, students and visitors and raised nearly £400 for the charity.

The event was organised by , Graduate Management School Administrator. The Undergraduate Office organised a raffle in support of the event and thanks should be noted to Morganna Hadley, Rebecca Shaw, Louise Brock and Daphne Riefenstahl for a fabulous range of prizes.  The raffle raised over £260.00 of the final total.

The judges, Professor Sue Cox, Julian Ankers (Lancaster University Executive Chef) and last year’s inaugural winner, Professor Maria Piacentini,  were really impressed by the quality of baking and judging proved to be a very serious matter!

Seven submissions were made by departments to the Bake Off and the award for the best cake went to Nyasie Odindo, a MA in Human Resources and Consulting student for her chocolate orange cake which was also the theme of last year’s winning entry!
