Open Strategy Design Workshop in Madrid

Martin Friesl presenting at the workshop

12 November 2014

Dr Martin Friesl, of Lancaster's Centre for Strategic Management, presented an Open Strategy Design workshop at the 2014 Strategic Management Society Conference in Madrid. The workshop was jointly organised with Luciano Oviedo (Intel Corporation) and Hanna Lehtimäki (University of Eastern Finland).

The objective of the event was to create impact by bridging the boundaries of academia and strategy practice. The workshop was made possible by grants from the SMS Innovation Grant Scheme as well as the Intel Foundation.

The workshop brought together an international group of strategy practitioners as well as leading strategy academics. Participants applied a design thinking approach introduced by design firms ExperiencePoint and IDEO, as an innovative approach to address a real strategic challenge for Neuroelectrics, a high technology firm based in Barcelona.

The workshop involved a great line up of guest speakers including Tim Morey (VP Strategy at Frog), Ana Maiques (CEO Neuroelectrics), Steve Dunne (Director Neuroscience Research, Starlab), Pilar Manchon (Director New Devices, Intel), Jorge Lang (Director Innovation, Intel) as well as Professor Richard Whittington (Said Business School, Oxford University).
