I chose Lancaster's MSc ITMOC because of the balance between academic and practical modules. To continue what I learned during my undergraduate degree in Information Systems and Technology, I selected ITMOC as a gateway to start my career in the IT management field. And luckily I received a full scholarship, covering tuition fees and living allowances, from the Ministry of Communication and IT in my country.
One of the highlights of my study at Lancaster University Management School was when I did a research internship with Informed Solutions with two other students during the dissertation period. Our topic was ‘the challenges senior management team face when leading major technology enabled business change and how can they tackle them’. In addition to the practical knowledge of consulting and project fields that I gained during interviews for our project, I learned the importance of listening and questioning skills.
ITMOC is not like other programmes. Besides having normal lectures, we also have reflective sessions, guest lecturers, workshops, and study tours. The habit of reflecting on what we did during our work gives us more self-knowledge and makes us more aware of what we could do better if we face similar problems in the future.
The study tour to London during summer 2014 to attend the Cloud World Forum and Big Data Congress gave us the opportunity to learn about the latest technology trends in the industry, and what challenges come with them, straight from the Chief Information Officers themselves. We also had the chance to see a live pitch of a start-up ‘YouJoin’ at Google Campus London.
Pursuing my Masters degree in ITMOC at Lancaster is one thing I will never regret. The size of the class was not too big, so we could all be close to each other, and not too small (thirteen nationalities were represented), so we could all learn to appreciate the differences and live in harmony. The lecturers and staff at LUMS are very helpful throughout the year. Last but not least, the beautiful, peaceful, and cosy environment at Lancaster was exactly right for learning.
