What was the best thing about your course?

The best thing about marketing was how much the course ensured that we understand the job market, how to create and maintain a personal brand and utilise our degree in the workplace. I had found that it is not only important what you learn but how you apply it and how it will translate to you getting a job after graduation.

What/who inspired you most at LUMS and why?

Dr Alan Gilchrist, the first lecturer I had for marketing and the man who made me realise why I decided to come to university to learn about it in more depth. He has such an effervescent presence and a passion for marketing that stems both from academia and industry. He is also incredibly funny and I feel every time I have the opportunity to discuss trending topics with him, or lecture notes I feel both uplifted and optimistic.

Lecturers such as Alan demonstrate how integral marketing is to society and how we can be agents of change and shape its future in a world that is becoming increasingly digitised.

Describe your time at LUMS in three words:
Galvanising all opportunities!

What are your best memories of your time at Lancaster (course, social, work experience…)?
Having an 8 hour meeting with my group to finish not only the group consultancy report but also the presentation. It was the pinnacle of stress but also one of the most rewarding experiences I have had and with a team who were confident in trusting everyone’s abilities and contributions. When that meeting finished there was relief but almost an immeasurable amount of pride.

Which parts of your Lancaster experience were the best preparation for your job?

My Presidency for the Advertising Society was brilliant preparation for my work. I had to set and ensure work was completed for deadlines, motivate team members and ensure that each and every member of the society felt that they had a rewarding experience. It means that I was able to hone and craft skills that are an absolute must for ensuring customer satisfaction and job success. Juggling so many tasks as once also enabled me to realise how much I can get done in a day!
