During my undergraduate studies, I heard about how successful Lancaster University Management School is – and its all-round support for students – from one of my teachers who also graduated from Lancaster. So I accepted the offer from LUMS for a place on the Management MSc without hesitation.

During my Master’s study, I was impressed by the study pathway of the MSc Management which allows students to develop in certain business areas by choosing pathways in Management, Project Management or Strategic Management. What’s more, LUMS assists students in developing their chosen pathway by helping them to gain professional qualifications and giving real company projects.

Take me for example: I chose the Project Management pathway on the MSc Management, and with the help of LUMS, I obtained the PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification in Project Management – which helped me prove myself as a professional project management candidate when I was hunting for a job.

During my studies, I was fortunate enough to engage in two company projects arranged by LUMS through the Management in Practice course and the dissertation research project. I learned a lot from these two activities in terms of leadership skills, project management skills, negotiation skills and some financial management skills. Both of the company projects received high acknowledgements from my clients and my summer company project was featured on the LUMS website as a case study. Later, I found that during my job hunting, all the employers felt excited to hear about my company project experience. As a result, I feel very grateful for the opportunity given by LUMS for participation in real projects during my MSc.

The year I spent in Lancaster was joyful and worthwhile. It’s a great place for study, but at the same time it’s a lot of fun. People here are all friendly and helpful. Lancaster is also a convenient place for other major cities in the UK, making it easy to travel around.

Shortly after I graduated from LUMS, I came back to my hometown, Guangzhou in China, and started looking for jobs in project management and financial management. Thanks to the knowledge and project experiences gained in LUMS, I was offered a job by my local HSBC group as an Assistant Business Analyst.
