I studied English Literature and Management at one of China’s top universities, Northeast Normal University. It was a difficult decision to further my studies at Lancaster University especially as I had received an offer to continue studying at Northeast Normal University.

The reason why I chose Lancaster is mainly because of its prestigious status among all British universities; it’s a top-ten university and its Management School is one of only two that have been awarded six stars.

I’m confident to say that I don’t regret my decision to come to Lancaster at all after a year living and studying here on the MA in Management and Consulting [now MA in HR and Consulting].

Admittedly I came across a couple of issues; however, these were all sorted out by the University. At first, I had no idea how to write a 1000-word essay – I hadn’t ever done this in China. The University held several writing sessions for graduate students and I learnt the necessary writing skills and this helped me to get a first distinction in SP1. Further into the programme, I was unsure of my future career path and the LUMS Careers Team gave me some really useful guidance.

Of all the modules on the programme, I enjoyed the consulting project the most. The fieldwork gave me real hands-on experience. I worked closely with my team members and worked in a company as a consultant, trying to solve their problems, which was practical, useful and challenging as well as interesting.

What I’m trying to say here is that Lancaster University really cares about every aspect of your life and study – you can really develop your knowledge and skills while studying here. I am even considering taking a PhD here after I’ve worked for a few years.
