Senior Media Officer, Sheffield Theatres
Since graduating, Kate has worked in arts PR, first for the Lowry, and then for Sheffield Theatres.
Since writing this profile, she has worked for other regional and national theatres, and is currently heading up marketing for Contact in Manchester.
Since graduating from LUMS in 2003 with a BA in Management and Organisation I've undertaken a career in arts PR. I started out at The Lowry as an administrator and press assistant and am now senior media officer at Sheffield Theatres.
The Sheffield Theatres complex, which comprises the Crucible, Studio and Lyceum Theatres, forms the largest theatre complex in England outside the National Theatre. Sheffield Theatres are nationally renowned for the quality of work they produce, tour and transfer to the West End and were recently described by the Guardian as ‘a showcase for regional theatre’.
In my role as Senior Media Officer, I write, develop and implement the national media strategy for the buildings and shows they produce, and I work with some of the best directors, actors and creative teams in the country. These have included Michael Grandage, Kathy Burke, Ian McDairmid, Jonathan Kent and Samuel West – alongside the very best new talent in the arts.
Shows I've worked on range from family musicals to classics and cutting-edge political theatre and no two days are ever the same. My degree study at Lancaster has been invaluable in helping me to think analytically, creatively and strategically about national and international media and the ways wider issues link to the productions I promote.
