Lancaster University Management School is one of the best business schools in Europe. The reputation of LUMS, and the variety of academic opportunities that it offers, were the main reasons why I chose to study here for my BA in Accounting and Finance, but the employability level of students after graduation was also a factor. It was a big challenge for me to join such a highly rated university and I knew that studying at such a prestigious university would surely open many doors for my future career.

Another reason for my choice was that Lancaster University offers the perfect place for students to spend their years of study  – a quiet, friendly and safe environment.

The most interesting thing about my degree was its combination of both accounting and finance fields. This combination offers a unique opportunity to build your knowledge of both the financial expertise of business and the financial decision-making and behaviour of financial markets.

During the three years of my degree I had the chance to see different theories applied in practice in different subject areas. This is because the BA Accounting and Finance degree is very varied and encourages students to search for different perspectives – this was very inspiring for me. Most importantly, the knowledge gained is readily applicable in the current challenging economic environment and I believe it will be a valuable grounding for my further career.

In the summer of 2009 I completed an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers, working in their Paphos office. During my internship I spent most of my time in the tax department. As a result I had the opportunity to learn lots of things about tax regulations and about practical things like completing tax forms, etc. I also spent some time in the audit department and dealing with foreign companies.

It was a very interesting experience and I am very pleased that I had the opportunity to learn from one of the leading companies in the world. After graduating I joined PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cyprus, as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) trainee in their audit department. I'm now an Indirect Tax Senior Adviser in PwC's Luxembourg office.
