Working in marketing for WPP Group, India
graduate Siddhartha Sahni hailed the value of holding a UK business degree after returning to India to take up ‘a perfect opportunity’ with the prestigious Oberoi Hotels & Resorts.
Siddhartha, who successfully completed his MSc Advanced Marketing Management in 2006, has now moved to the WPP Group, the Marketing communication giant, working with GREY based out of India.
Siddhartha said there was 'no way' he would have landed the position if he had not studied at Lancaster for a year. “I’m actually much younger than many colleagues here but I’ve been able to get this job because I have a UK business degree – it gives a lot of added value in India,” Siddhartha explained.
Siddhartha is based in Kolkata. “I head a number of key accounts and deal with a number of core marketing issues. Companies in price conscious markets have to deal with product placement, brand acceleration and ideas that create new brand possibilities, taking a brand to its full potential.” He adds: “I am very happy with the way my career has progressed since I graduated from Lancaster; I always wanted to move into marketing communication and branding.”
Siddhartha explained how the MSc Advanced Marketing Management, which has links with companies such as Microsoft and Reebok, had given him the ideal grounding for his current role. “I wanted to study on a programme that would help me get into the workplace – and I made the right choice,” he said. “Because the course focused on real-life issues facing marketing managers and we worked on actual company-based projects, I was extremely well placed when applying for jobs.”
And the Lancaster experience has made a lasting impression on Siddhartha. “Lancaster is the perfect place for postgraduate study, I fell in love with the environment and the Lake District, and I made some good friends,” he said.
“There is a large contingent of international students there and I got to meet lots of different people. For me, as soon as I decided to study in the UK, Lancaster was the obvious choice. I like how they market the School – what you see is what you get. Lancaster’s great research ranking and recent achievement to a triple accreditation means a lot to me as well.”
