Graduate Tax Trainee, KPMG (UK)

Prior to studying on the Management MSc I graduated with a degree in law, also from Lancaster University. I already had a graduate job offer before commencing the programme, but I felt confident that it would be a worthwhile investment to enhance my skills and knowledge base.

I’m now training as a chartered accountant with KPMG, one of the largest professional services firms in the world. The time I spent at LUMS has proved a definite advantage when sitting the chartered accountancy exams, especially as regards the finance and strategic management areas.

I knew LUMS to be a highly-regarded UK business school and its impressive global rankings certainly support this view. Selecting the MSc Management came down to its excellent combination of modules and different forms of assessment. As well as conventional exams and coursework, I was interested in the presentation and group report aspects that the programme would involve.

At times the programme was challenging, but always rewarding. The lecturers were extremely good and evidently passionate in their teaching, and the administrative staff did an excellent job in ensuring everything ran smoothly. I felt supported throughout and always had a clear idea of what was required of me.

During the year I continued to make use of the fantastic sporting facilities on campus as part of the student Triathlon Club. I also enjoyed playing basketball and football with my classmates and on occasion we organised games to play against students from the fellow MSc International Business.

Overall, spending an extra year at Lancaster was a clever choice. It helped me to develop the skills, connections and international outlook to be successful at a top professional services firm. Moreover, I made friends from all over the world and have kept in contact with them.
