Having worked with OTC Exchange of India and with Citigroup for a span of over 13 years, it was a difficult decision for me to get back to academic life. By this time, I had already completed a three-year part-time Masters degree in Finance; however, I still felt the need to understand the ever-developing financial markets and their intricacies. I believed I needed to understand the cutting edge financial innovations that were changing the global financial markets – and my workplace.
I chose Lancaster's MSc in Finance primarily because of the Management School's excellent research ratings and its world-renowned staff. The switch to academia was not as difficult as I had anticipated. The classroom atmosphere was collaborative rather than instructive. We helped ourselves to learn with the guidance of professors – and experts from the corporate world as well. The projects were tough and challenged us to succeed. This not only increased my problem solving and analytical skills but also my learning on current industry trends.
The one year of academia passed all too soon. Apart from my academic learning, the friends I made from the world over and the global cuisines I tasted and learnt to make will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Having completed the programme I am now working with HSBC Singapore. I feel that I definitely took the right decision to complete my MSc in Finance at Lancaster University. The overall experience, the global interaction, the professors and their teaching methodologies, the research infrastructure – all make it a great place in which to learn.
