Residents of Graduate College may move in to their accommodation on the weekend of 27 and 28 September.

Campus Tour
  • 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00 

You can also take a tour of the campus from Alexandra Square (outside the Base) lasting around 45 minutes. The tours are available on either day and are on the hour.

General Safety & Fire Prevention Talk

Bowland North is today the hub for a series of other talks that might interest you, some practical, and some just to satisfy your interest or thirst for knowledge. All last around half an hour, including question and answer time. Feel free to go to any of the following:

Overview of Library & IT Facilities

This talk covers the main information services and how to get up and running. It takes place in Elizabeth Livingstone Lecture Theatre.

Transport Talks
  • 11:00, 12.00, 14:00 or 15:00

Find out about travelling between the campus and the city centre, car parking arrangements, buses, cycle routes and cycle storage facilities. The talk also includes information about how to reduce your carbon footprint. It takes place in Bowland North Small (Marcus Merriman) Lecture Theatre.

Lancaster’s 50th Birthday: An Illustrated History

Having been here almost since its inception there’s nobody better placed to guide you through the last 49 years than University Archivist Marion McClintock MBE. This fascinating talk covers the heady early days of the sixties through the development and redevelopment of the campus over five decades and the highs and lows along the way of one of Britain’s ‘new’ universities. Pro Vice-Chancellor for Colleges and the Student Experience Prof. Amanda Chetwynd introduces this talk, which is open to anyone with an interest. It takes place in Bowland North SR10.

Careers Support for Postgraduate Masters Students

The Careers Service can help you your choice of career, finding job vacancies, writing CVs and application forms, preparation for interviews, psychometric tests, further study opportunities and sources of funding. This session will tell you more about the services on offer.

Freshers Fair Part One

Here you can meet the sports teams and societies at Lancaster University. Feel free to ask them any questions, find something new to try, and sign up for as many as you like. New students get exclusive entry to the fair before 14:00.

Friday 3 October

Freshers’ Fair Part Two
  • 12:00 - 16:00
  • Venue: Great Hall Complex

Today you can find out more about what the Students’ Union does from the Sugarhouse to Bailrigg FM and LA1:TV; volunteering, Purple Card, Campus Festival, Roses and more: The team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and tell you about all you can do with LUSU while you’re in Lancaster.

You can also see what the rest of Lancaster has to offer, from pubs, to restaurants, to shops... Over 90 different local and national companies will also have a presence in the Great Hall today.

New students again have exclusive access to the fair until 14:00.

Saturday 4 October

Sports Team Trials

  • Venue: Sports Centre & Pitches

If you’re interested in competing against other Universities in sport, trials take place today. University fixtures start early on in the term so the groups will be trialling anyone who is interested in taking part. You can find out when the slots are from the teams at Freshers Fair Part One or on the LUSU Activities web page.

Trafford Centre Trip
  • 11:00 - 17:30

LUSU will be running a coach trip to Manchester’s Trafford centre, which has over 200 stores, a cinema, restaurants and leisure attractions. You can buy tickets for this trip from the LUSU information desk from arrivals weekend onwards.

Ikea Trip
  • 13:00-18:00

 If you haven’t got everything that you need for your house or flat just yet, LUSU will be running a coach trip to IKEA. Tickets are available from the LUSU information desk from arrivals weekend onwards.

Sunday 5 October

Sports Team Trials

Lake District Trip

LUSU will be running coach trips to the Lake District, giving students the opportunity to walk, shop and visit the sites of Windermere and the surrounding area. Previous trips have sold out quickly. You can get tickets from the LUSU information desk from arrivals weekend onwards.

The Sunday Refresher

  • Venue:the Great Hall Complex

The Live at LICA team (Nuffield Theatre, Lancaster Concerts and Peter Scott Gallery) present an afternoon of live acoustic music with delicious homemade cakes, our own blend of fresh coffee and juices. A perfect way to relax and unwind before you begin your first week.
