DSNE seminar with Emily Lines, University of Cambridge
Forests are globally important as stores and sinks of carbon, as habitat for the majority of terrestrial biodiversity, and as a source of food, fuel and livelihoods for many of the world's poorest people. Many countries plan to prevent deforestation and promote restoration and afforestation to help them to meet their international commitments to mitigate climate change, but climate change is already changing forests. In this talk I will discuss the challenges of predicting the future of forests and present some new approaches to harnessing the power of large ground and remote sensing datasets to provide information about how forests function, and to improve our understanding of how they may change in a changing world.
