Professor Kylie Vincent from the University of Oxford joins us for a special talk on hydrogenases. Also available on Teams
Nickel-iron hydrogenase enzymes continue to fascinate chemists because of their ability to activate dihydrogen efficiently at an active site built from earth-abundant metals. Here we explore how these enzymes offer opportunities for cleaner biocatalysis for chemical manufacturing, turning biocatalytic reductions into atom-economical hydrogenations. We also use crystallography and spectroscopy under electrochemical control to probe the mechanism of these fascinating enzymes, aiming to inspire the next generation of catalysts for hydrogen activation technologies.
