Top engineering employers, including Jaguar Land Rover, the RAF and Manchester Airport, gave 200 engineering students a glimpse into the world of work this week.

Around 30 businesses and organisations attended the Engineering Department’s Careers Open Day, designed to provide students with detailed information on job opportunities and placements.

Admissions and Recruitment Co-ordinator Deborah Craine said: “We were delighted to welcome companies to our careers fair as this is such a fantastic opportunity for our students to have industry knowledge at their fingertips.”

Nicky Sidebottom and Lily Gee, manning the Manchester Airports Group (MAG) stand, said Lancaster had been designated as a ‘target university’ by the organisation for both graduates and placements.

The fair, added Nicky, was an ideal opportunity to get the brand name of Manchester Airports Group out into a university environment.

“This is particularly relevant,” explained Nicky, “as we have just increased our graduate programme in target universities.

“The fair allows us to raise awareness of all the opportunities we have at the airport for engineering students.”
