Philosophy is a set of intellectual skills and virtues more than a body of agreed knowledge, and we develop them by practice in good company. We teach philosophy by doing philosophy together in a guided, developmental structure, exploring a wide range of texts, thinkers, traditions, and problems.
Studying philosophy at Lancaster will help you to:
- Develop critical thinking skills, clarity of communication, and the confidence to apply these skills to novel problems, through stepped progression in skills training and opportunities to demonstrate these skills.
- Gain a broad, global and critical awareness by working through methodologically and culturally diverse content.
- Develop an awareness of philosophy’s relevance and impact on the wider world.
