Lancaster Professor becomes President of the British Society of Gerontology

Professor Carol Holland is the new President of the British Society of Gerontology.

Professor Holland, who is Director of the Centre for Ageing Research (C4AR) in the Faculty of Health and Medicine, will be President of the BSG from 2022 for a three year term.

She said: “I’m very honoured by the Society’s choice and hope to continue the previous Presidents’ work in broadening the disciplinary scope and inclusion in the BSG and changing some of the narrative around ageing to more valuing of the increases in lifespan.

“An important part of the role is to support building capacity for the future in gerontology amongst emerging researchers as well as to link in with international societies in gerontology and geriatrics encouraging UK researchers to have an international platform as well as a national one.”

The British Society of Gerontology (BSG) is a leading forum for the advancement of gerontological research and knowledge across the UK, and the professional organisation representing gerontologists in Britain. The Society is a member of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) and of the Academy of Social Sciences.

The BSG brings together academics, researchers, practitioners, educators, policy-makers, the third sector, students, and all those interested in researching ageing and later life, in a unique multi-disciplinary learned society.

The 50th Anniversary conference of the BSG was hosted online last year by Lancaster University.
