Hi Lian and Fiona, hope you're ok. Can you paint a portrait for us of yourself and your role?
We are the co-founders of Shine Coaching, which offers goal-oriented, practical solutions to reduce anger and conflict and improve mental health and wellbeing, exclusively for men.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
A typical day varies hugely, between us we lead five coaches, 14 volunteers and sessional workers who provide support to approximately 350 men a year across Lancashire. Our current focus is to spread the word about the impact our work is having; for example the men who received coaching report a 74 per cent drop in conflict within their relationships. We already know there is a very high demand for what we do and these results underline the impact our work is having. These results will help us with our next priority to move towards a more diversified range of income streams. This will then ensure the long term viability of our much-needed organisation.
What motivates you to do what you do?
We are motivated first by our experience and sense that men are suffering with anger issues, their response to it and the underlying causes such as anxiety, while traditional models such as therapy or executive coaching may not be available to them. And second the topic of male anger is a potentially charged area and too often remains in the shadows. We must bring it into the light then it can be addressed.
What is/has been your favourite aspect of being part of the collaborative community through the Health Innovation Campus?
Our favourite aspect of being involved and part of the collaborative community through the Health Innovation Campus is learning about all the exciting projects taking place and that so much work goes in to building relationships and connections with the community and organisations. Amanda and Gemma have been amazing, providing us with so many technical and big picture details - honestly it's been a pleasure.
What future projects and collaborations are you excited about?
Going forward with future projects and collaborations, we would love a specifically designed evaluation of our service. After that further in-depth evaluation - we are extremely open to all possibilities. One thing about being a small organisation, although it can be hard you can be extremely innovative and it is exciting to be able to respond to ideas and offers that come our way.
