Event Details

A hybrid Study Event (with both online and in-person elements) focused on visitors' impressions of North West England from the 17th to the 20th centuries. There will be a live Q&A session with Dr Alan Crosby (BALH), held online on Saturday 2 April 2022. Details provided to everyone who registers.

Those lucky enough to live in the North West of England are well aware of its charms: varied and unspoiled landscapes, historic towns and villages and a distinctive identity expressed through food, customs, dialect and more. But how is the region viewed by others, and how has this changed over time? In this special hybrid Study Event (featuring both online and live elements) Dr Alan Crosby (British Association for Local History) looks at the evidence, sifting the historical record to provide a fascinating glimpse of these outsiders who have played an important role in shaping the image of the North West.

Dr Crosby will pre-record the first two presentations, and the videos will be made available in advance to all those who register. You can watch at a time of your own choosing, via our dedicated online space, in the days leading up to the live event on Saturday 2 April. A special screening of these videos will also take place in the Library events space from 10.30am on the day should you be unable to access the videos beforehand. Dr Crosby will give the last two presentations in person during the afternoon session, which will be broadcast and recorded via Microsoft Teams from 1.45-4 pm. A live Q&A session from 4.15-5.00 pm will also be broadcast, but not recorded. We will be sending out full information on how to access the videos (which will remain available for some time after the event) as well as how to join the Q&A session
