Revitalising UK-Latin America Engagement Post-Brexit

BFPG

On 19th September Dr Thomas Mills participated in an event held in London by the British Foreign Policy Group on ‘Revitalising UK-Latin America Engagement Post-Brexit’. Sponsored by Anglo-American plc, and in partnership with British Expertise, the event brought together academics and members of the business and policy-making community. Dr Mills contributed to a roundtable discussion on how diplomacy and soft power can be utilised to meet the contemporary challenges and opportunities for Britain in Latin America alongside the Argentite Ambassador to the UK (Renato Carlos Sersale di Cerisano) and the Head of the Latin America department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Nigel Baker OBE). Dr Mills co-authored the briefing paper for this event, the final version of which will be published by the BFPG in November. Dr Mills’s analysis of UK-Latin America relations draws on interviews with leading policy-makers conducted for a forthcoming article on the subject, as well as research towards a forthcoming edited collection of essays on the role of Britain and the United States in Latin America throughout the twentieth century
