The Department of History at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Roman History (c. 50BC to 600AD). This is a permanent appointment to be filled as soon as possible and by 1 September 2019 at the latest. The Department is particularly interested in receiving applications from scholars whose main teaching and research interests focus on Roman Britain or the Roman Empire more widely, including its eastern and western provinces. We will favour candidates who can complement the department’s existing strengths in regional history, heritage, military history, and/or digital humanities. Experience in applying archaeological methods and evidence may also be considered an advantage. You will be expected to have a strong track record of attracting students to the history of this period. You should have an excellent profile in teaching and research as well as concrete plans for future projects and outputs.

You will have experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (preferably including the design and delivery of your own modules) and, in due course, will be expected to supervise doctoral students. You will also be expected to provide evidence that you have, or will shortly have, a strong publication profile. The Department is particularly interested in candidates whose research interests will allow them to develop projects with other members of staff both in the Department of History and beyond.
