Charlotte Baker invited to speak at UN Expert Consultation in Geneva

Geneva

In 2021, Professor Charlotte Baker was part of a team that successfully proposed a Resolution to the UN Human Rights Council, which called for the elimination of harmful practices resulting from witchcraft-related beliefs.

This week, Charlotte will share her research at a UN Expert Consultation on ‘Violations and abuses of human rights rooted in harmful practices related to accusations of witchcraft and ritual attacks’ at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

She will draw on her work on albinism in sub-Saharan contexts and her current Disability and Inclusion Africa Project, which she leads with Dr Elvis Imafidon (SOAS), Prof. Emelda Ngufor Samba (Yaounde 1, Cameroon) and Prof. Kobus Moolman (University of the Western Cape, South Africa), to inform her contribution to a panel focusing on Preventative Measures.
