A huge congratulations to recent DeLC graduate Beth Hamilton, who was awarded the Chancellor’s Medal alongside her Master of Languages (MLang, French and German) degree at this year’s graduation ceremonies. This prestigious award is bestowed upon the top students from each faculty who have demonstrated exceptional merit in their studies.

Beth, of County College, completed her degree in 2020 and was finally able to attend her graduation ceremony in July of this year in Lancaster’s biggest ever graduation event (2020, 2021 and 2022 cohorts).

In addition to the Chancellor’s Medal, Beth was also awarded the Lancaster Award, distinctions in both spoken French and spoken German, the DELC Tom Lawrenson award 2019/2020 for the student with best overall performance in the Department, and also received a scholarship with the German Academic Exchange Service to attend a summer school in Germany in 2017.

On studying for the Master of Languages and receiving the Chancellor’s Medal, Beth said: "Studying the MLang was such a valuable experience for me. Going on my year abroad in 2nd Year and studying at Master's level in 4th Year are just a couple of the opportunities I've had by following this degree pathway. I'd recommend this programme for anyone who has a strong aptitude and passion for languages and wants to push themselves further!

“Receiving the Chancellor’s Medal for me has been a meaningful and special way to mark the end of my journey and degree at Lancaster, I feel really honoured to have been a recipient of this award."

The MLang is a selective, fast-track route for excellent linguists to attain a master’s degree in four years. Read more about the degree here.
