Lancaster ranks in the UK top ten for Geography and Environmental Science in the fourth major league table this year.

Lancaster is now in 7th position in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, firmly establishing it as one of the country’s elite universities for these subjects.

The Guide, which takes into account research and teaching quality, students’ experience and graduate employment prospects, places Lancaster as first in the northwest for Geography and Environmental Science, beating Russell Group peers Manchester and Liverpool.

This success follows high scores in the latest major league tables:

The Lancaster Environment Centre also ranked 3rd in the UK for the real world impact of its research in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and 1st for Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation in the 2015 UK Impact Awards.

The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide placed Lancaster University overall ninth in the UK, and top in the northwest. Again this follows top ten success in all the recent major league tables.

Authors of Guide said:

“The University of Lancaster is committed to becoming a "global player" in both teaching and research, with a place among the top 100 universities in the world.

“Lancaster has jumped nearly 40 places in the QS global ranking and is the only UK university with a presence in sub-Saharan Africa, having opened a branch campus in Ghana. There are also partnerships with universities in India, Malaysia and China that mean as many students are taking a Lancaster degree overseas as in the UK.

“The university’s research grades improved substantially in the latest assessments, when 83% of its work was considered world-leading or internationally excellent.”
