Congratulations to Sam Schmück for being awarded a highly prestigious Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship. Sam recently completed his PhD in the UKRI CDT for Speech and Language Technologies and their Applications at the University of Sheffield, prior to which he completed his BA with us in LAEL. On the recent good news, Sam says...

“I’m delighted to have been accepted as a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow for the next 3 years at Lancaster University in LAEL. This was a joint effort with many moving parts, thank you to everyone in the department who has been instrumental in making this happen! I will dedicate the next three years to exploring speech analytics as a sub-field of speech technologies and the potential for generating contextual speaker profiles to improve the utility of speech analytics driven technologies on under-represented language varieties. I am also eager to continue my work in CASS looking to enhance synergies between corpus linguistics and speech technologies. Excited to get cracking in such a fantastic department!”
