Morecambe Bay Curriculum ‘an incredibly powerful movement, a life changing movement’
The Morecambe Bay Curriculum team were delighted to see Dr Meryl Batchelder from the Ministry of Eco Education interview our Dr Beth Garrett as part of their ‘Ask an Expert’ series. The Ministry of Eco Education is a group of experienced and passionate teachers and environmentalists supporting action on the ground in schools across the country.
The interview covered the beginnings of the Morecambe Bay Curriculum movement, the direction of travel, and the real-life impact we’re seeing on communities and the teachers that are making this movement happen!

Meryl acknowledged that the Morecambe Bay Curriculum is a really special movement, unique to this region. The work we are doing could therefore act as an inspiration for others who are also seeking to promote positive change. Beth gave the following advice for anyone wanting to create their own educational and environmental movement:
- Allow yourself to be ambitious, you can find links in the curriculum and change is possible! You can be creative and innovative whilst still hitting your objectives.
- Find your community and make time to be together. Change won’t happen overnight but do seek out the spaces to explore collectively what education could and should look like. Feel free to be joyful!
- What do you want to change? If it’s a big thing, what is the first step towards that change? For us, we want to embed place and environment through head, heart and hands. What matters to you?
