The project, which is a result of listening and involving students and users in the design, offers a light, airy and spacious academic study environment.

Some of the facilities you’ll find in your new library include 220 new, faster PCs, on flexible arms; high speed Wi-Fi; 27 bookable group study rooms for students, some with AV facilities; loanable laptops and print, scan and copy facilities on every floor.

Library staff are available at Information Pods and in the open plan staff area during service hours and there is a dedicated postgraduate study area.

The refurbishment was a result of extensive consultation - focus groups took place with students, academic staff, library staff and others. Library-related comments from the Lancaster Student Experience Survey (LSES 2013) and National Student Survey (NSS 2013) have also informed the design. Users have been able to express their preferences for furniture by leaving comments on post-it notes.

There is more to come. One floor of the West building will be complete in early 2016, which will  provide even more group and individual study space.
