I chose to study at LUMS because of the good reputation it has as one of the best business schools. I knew that having my degree at LUMS would significantly help me when looking for graduate jobs. I was also impressed with the Management School when I came for my Open Day, and was made to feel welcomed straight away, so I knew it was the place for me.
I liked it that we could choose from such a wide variety of modules and we could specialise in certain things if we wanted to, particularly in the final year, when you have much more of an idea of what you want to do in your career. I enjoyed project work more in the fourth year, where you could choose the groups you were in, as it made it much easier to get a good grade!
The LUMS Careers Team helped me a lot when looking for placements by giving me advice on how to complete the psychometric tests best; when I first started, I was failing them all, but after LUMS Careers support, I passed any other that I did. They also helped me prepare for assessment centres by doing practice group activities and I found the mock assessment centres very useful as well.
I did a placement in supply chain at Molson Coors Brewing Company, which was really rewarding because I got to work on real-life projects. I made friends for life during my placement and it was probably the best year of my degree. It made me much more organised and focused for my final year at the University and it gave me a real sense of what I can achieve once I graduate. It was quite a shock coming back to the student lifestyle afterwards and it made me so much more motivated to work harder during my final year so that I could get back into full-time employment.
I enjoyed living on campus for two years, as there is a sense of community and you are never far away from any facilities. I also enjoyed going out in the city, which was where I made quite a lot of friends, as the atmosphere is always good, you are always bound to bump into someone you know!
There were ups and downs, but overall, it was the best four years of my life. I realised that to get the rewards from life, I have to work hard and that nothing is an easy ride. Being at Lancaster makes you feel like you're part of a family and is a place I will truly miss! Being at Lancaster has made me a much more confident person and given me the push I needed to realise my potential.
After graduation, I started to work as a Finance Assistant at HSS Hire, where my role includes weekly and daily financial reporting, auditing and checking any accruals or large revenue contracts.
