In 2011 I graduated with a BA in Literature and Film from the University of Warwick, and I was looking for a graduate management degree to launch a more lucrative and successful business career. Having received offers from Warwick, Loughborough, and Lancaster, it was LUMS's reputation as a top-5 business school in the UK and its study abroad opportunities that really made it stand out, and I quickly enrolled on the 2011-2012 Management MSc programme.

The MSc degrees offer a broad and intense introduction to essential business functions (e.g. strategy, marketing, accounting, economics, project management, etc.), and the Careers Service is genuinely committed to helping you further your career. I was working in teams on a regular basis, and I left LUMS with the requisite confidence to pursue a career of my choice. Most importantly, I have found during the job application process that a degree from LUMS carries tremendous value and opens numerous doors. Lancaster was – for me – a perfect place to live and study.

On finishing my degree, I was fortunate enough to receive a place on the Study Abroad scheme at the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Germany. I saw a study abroad period as an opportunity to live in a new country, study in a new environment, and ultimately to hunt for jobs in my own time.

The study abroad opportunity offered by Lancaster actually played a deciding role when I was determining which university I would apply to for my postgraduate degree, and I was driven for much of the first term by the hope that I could meet the academic requirements of the exchange programmes. Before looking at LUMS I'd given a lot of thought to studying in Europe, partly because I've lived abroad for the last 18 years and I've grown accustomed to that lifestyle. I also hope to find employment in mainland Europe (and not the UK) once all is said and done, and I initially thought that getting a Masters outside the UK would be the best way of going about that.

So the chance to study at a well-ranked university in the UK while also getting that international experience was what pushed me towards LUMS!

In this sense, my MSc, combined with the experience of studying in Germany, has been an enormous success.
