About Fulbright

Lancaster shares the Fulbright vision, a world where there are no obstacles to learning, understanding and collaboration. Lancaster provides support to students and academics in order to make the most of Fulbright opportunities available.

Opportunities in the USA

Fulbright offers programmes, advice and events for UK students, academics and professionals interested in researching, teaching and studying at an accredited HE institution in the USA.

Applying for an Award in the USA

Fulbright offers scholarships, also known as 'Fulbright Awards'. This means UK students can apply to participate in a range of programmes including funded postgraduate degrees, short-term programmes and research in the USA. UK academic staff can make the most of Fulbright by applying for a scholarship to further research and teaching within the USA.

If you would like support in applying for a Fulbright Award in the USA, contact the Global Engagement Team. Lancaster University is committed to support its students and academics through the Fulbright application process. Our Fulbright membership status enables Lancaster University academics and students to benefit from exclusive workshops and events as part of this partnership.

Fulbright UK-US Global Challenges Teaching Awards – Applications Open!

The Global Challenges Teaching Awards is open to teaching faculty across the UK and US. Selected grantees will take part in a year-long programme to support the development and delivery of a virtual exchange partnership utilising the Collaborative Online International Learning model (COIL).  More information about the award can be found on the Fulbright website.

The Award supports and pairs up teaching faculty—one at a US higher education institution (HEI) and one at a UK HEI—to co-deliver a virtual exchange programme for undergraduates.

In this cycle, the focus is on understanding and addressing four specific global challenges and you can make an application for one of those:

  • Racial Justice
  • Inequality
  • Climate Change
  • Polarisation and Division

The award provides financial support including a $5000/£3750 honorarium for the faculty member. Additionally, there's a $2500/£2000 technical support fee for the faculty member's institution. Travel expenses, up to $5600/£4000, are covered for the faculty member and an administrative staff member to visit their partner institution. Finally, tailored COIL-modelled professional development and mentoring are offered by experts from AAC&U.
